Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father! ~Lydia M. Child, Philothea: A Romance, 1836
memories of my father: i remember when
- my father will bring treats (candies/choc-nuts/white rabbit) on Friday afternoons coming from work. we were in mansalay, oriental mindoro - he worked 2 hours away through jeepney so he would commute weekly.
- i was in third grade, I ask for help with my math homework hoping he would do it for me. but no. he would ask me to read the problem and ask me what was given and what it is the problem exactly is. he wouldn't give up until i understand the general concept of solving a problem. he was so smart in the sense that he did what he should in order for me not to rely on him. the next is history- my nick name in my math class is ms. mathematician (not sure if this is true today- hehehe- i must admit i have rusty brain).
- in sablayan- i was in ES, my father would turn on a record player (it was red and compact) and will put on 60s music then we would with me and dance through the night then later the next day my neighbor would tell me that they've been watching us dance . I was kind of embarrassed- so the next time, I made sure we closed the window before we do our after dinner dance.
- i was in HS, he would punish me when i got home one night because we had choir practice- the reason he got mad? i didn't tell them that i'm going to be late; the reason i didn't tell them? had no kind of comm device at that time plus my teacher told us that everyone will be taken home by the the choir team with the teacher so i figure i'm safe- not!
- i was in HS, we would play scrabble until midnight on friday nights.
- when in the early days after we migrated to the US, he would give me money just to stay playing mahjong with my sisters because i would quit if i lose. this game was introduced to me and my sister and brother in the late seventees when we first migrated to the US. we played for 10 cents.
-my father passed 5 years ago and i believe he had fulffilled and experienced a full and wondeful life on this earth. he had seen 7 successful children and 11 grandchildren. it was unfortunate that he didn't see the last 2 grandhildren (our youngest brother's kids) and have not seen our little princess J-
GOD BLESS YOU FATHER! We are so lucky to have the best father.
